WebMay 15, 2013 · The early 90's are a bit harsher shifting, never been inside a late nv4500 so I'm not sure if the top covers swap and if it would make a difference, they SHOULD be interchangeable. Shifter shafts can be swapped too. After I installed new synchro's my shifts were ALOT nicer in my earlier trannies. In regards to your comment I put in red, I knew someone that put a 3208 Cat into an late 1960's Ford 1 ton. He never seemed concerned about axle weights....but I don't know where you live or the laws w/ engine swaps. Heck, 6BT's have been put into Ford's (be it the 250 or 350s).
