Flow stability
WebJan 20, 1993 · This paper describes an investigation of thermal hydraulic flow stability in a particle bed reactor fuel element. The work starts from an adaptation of the stability criterion used by Bussard and DeLauer (1958 and 1965). A one-dimensional evaluation was then performed, using the Ergun relation (1952) to evaluate numerically the pressure drop. WebFlow surging is defined as the oscillatory change in the output rate of the extruder while maintaining constant set point conditions. Flow surging can originate from many different sources including improper solids conveying, melting instabilities, and improper control algorithms (1-5). Surging in most cases results in lower production rates,

WebTaylor–Couette flow. In fluid dynamics, the Taylor–Couette flow consists of a viscous fluid confined in the gap between two rotating cylinders. For low angular velocities, measured by the Reynolds number Re, the flow is steady and purely azimuthal. This basic state is known as circular Couette flow, after Maurice Marie Alfred Couette, who ...
In fluid dynamics, hydrodynamic stability is the field which analyses the stability and the onset of instability of fluid flows. The study of hydrodynamic stability aims to find out if a given flow is stable or unstable, and if so, how these instabilities will cause the development of turbulence. The foundations of … See more To distinguish between the different states of fluid flow one must consider how the fluid reacts to a disturbance in the initial state. These disturbances will relate to the initial properties of the system, such as velocity See more Bifurcation theory Bifurcation theory is a useful way to study the stability of a given flow, with the changes that occur in the structure of a given system. … See more • List of hydrodynamic instabilities • Laminar–turbulent transition • Plasma stability See more Reynolds number A key tool used to determine the stability of a flow is the Reynolds number (Re), first put forward by George Gabriel Stokes at the start of the 1850s. WebThis article provides theoretical conditions for the use and meaning of a stability analysis around a mean flow. As such, it may be considered as an extension of the works by McKeon & Sharma (J. Fluid Mech., vol. 658, 2010, pp. 336–382) to non-parallel flows and by Turton et al. (Phys. Rev. E, vol. 91 (4), 2015, 043009) to broadband flows.. Considering … WebFluid flows can be in an ordered or laminar state, or they can be in a relatively-disordered, chaotic or turbulent state.
